The driver, wearing a black ski mask, got out and pointed his thumb and index finger at the clerk behind the counter, who grabbed a phone by the cord and swung the receiver at the robber. Despite a struggle that nearly knocked off his mask, the robber grabbed the register before putting it in the truck and driving off. “The clerk was in great danger. If the clerk happened to be behind the door where the truck backed into – the glass doors – he could have been seriously injured,” Balian said. The robber, described as 25-35 years old, was driving a black Dodge Dakota with an extra-size cab, police said. The truck’s tailgate was down, so the license plate was not visible. GLENDALE – Most robbers have a standard MO – walk into a business, point a weapon at a clerk, get the money, leave. Not the masked bandit who pulled off the heist at an Arco gas station this week. He backed his heavy-duty pickup truck through the front doors of the minimart, then made off with the cash register. The whole thing was caught on surveillance video, and police are trying to track down the brazen driver. “This seems like a desperate act,” said Glendale police Officer John Balian. “It doesn’t happen everyday.” Anyone with information is asked to call Glendale Crime Stoppers at (818) 507-STOP.
