PHIL Identifies with St. Paul Bridge Community

first_imgThe Public Health Initiative Liberia (PHIL), a non-governmental organization, last weekend provided an assortment of Ebola preventive materials to the St. Paul Bridge Community in Monrovia.The items, estimated at US$1,600, included buckets, soap, clora, and chlorine.PHIL’s Executive Director Madam Joyce Kilikpo explained that her organization is concerned about the recent Ebola outbreak in the St. Paul Bridge Community.According to her, PHIL’s donation of the Ebola preventive items to the community was intended to buttress the Liberian government’s efforts to eradicate the virus from the country.Director Kilikpo said since the beginning of the Ebola outbreak PHIL has carried out a series of activities, including donations to various affected communities in and out of Montserrado County.Mrs. Kilikpo pointed out that the organization is responding to the call made by health authorities, asking all Liberians to join in the fight against the deadly Ebola disease.The Executive Director, however, said that her organization is also concerned about Ebola survivors, as well as Ebola orphans.Director Kilikpo explained that PHIL was providing support to 20 Ebola survivors and orphans through their psycho-social program.Receiving the donation, Mr. Saah B. Harris, chairman of Block C said, “Whenever you tell a sick person sorry, that does not necessarily mean they will get well, but it implies that you are concerned about them.”He said further that the Liberian government and its foreign partners cannot handle this matter alone, but with the help of other concerned groups coming in with more supplies, the fight against the Ebola Virus Disease is achievable.He commended the organization for its timely support and hoped that others will engage in similar activities to eradicate the disease from the community and Liberia.“This will help all of us to ensure that this deadly disease is contained.
