first_imgTHE Saints have been working with Merseyside Police and Liverpool Landrover to raise awareness among young people of the dangers of driving under the influence of drink and drugs.Players in the Academy were given messages about drink and drug driving as part of their continuing education and development on and off the pitch.“Driving is a privilege and the Club wants to do all it can to ensure that our young players have the best education into driving responsibly,” Player Performance Manager Neil Kilshaw said. “This session provided an excellent opportunity for our young drivers to increase their awareness and help them to make better decisions in the future.”Sgt Paul Mountford from the Roads Policing Department added: “This is an innovative scheme in which the players learnt about the effects of alcohol and the various drugs that can affect their driving ability, including medicines.“Young drivers are more at risk of being involved in collisions than any other age group and there is an enormous amount of ignorance of the effects of alcohol and drugs.“This was a great opportunity for Merseyside Police, St. Helens R.F.C. and a large local car dealership to team up to promote an important message”.A local Landrover dealership contributed to the training by loaning a state-of-the-art ‘Evoque’ vehicle for the day.last_img read more
