ITHACA (WBNG) — With the COVID-19 pandemic impacting travel plans, some here in Upstate New York are deciding to stay closer to home this year. Stewart Park in Ithaca was filled with families and local college students enjoying some time outside, while taking in the view of Cayuga Lake. Amy Hanson says her family made the trip from Syracuse and spent the day visiting waterfalls before heading to the park to end their day out together with a picnic. “We’re just here for the day to enjoy the last few moments of summer, we did some hiking in the gorge now we’re just enjoying the view and having lunch so it’s been great. It’s someplace to get away but it doesn’t take long to get here,” she said. Another group of Cornell University students said they weren’t comfortable traveling for the holiday and were just looking to have some fun locally.
