An Ebola awareness campaign that is aimed at synchronizing cross border social mobilization, awareness and outreach on the disease prevention and interventions in Bong, Lofa, Nimba and Grand Cape Mount counties has been officially launched by the Liberia Crusaders for Peace (LCP) in Monrovia.Giving an overview of the campaign last Friday, the executive director of LCP, Ambassador Juli Endee, told the gathering that since the outbreak of the killer disease in Liberia, the virus has posed a serious threat to all sectors of the Liberian economy.She noted that the virus has also undermined social and infrastructural development as well as peace and security.Besides the closure of these borders, “it is important that stringent measures be taken to provide food and other basic necessities to those affected,” said Endi adding that by doing that, the minds of Ebola affected communities and survivors could be re-directed to contribute positively to combating the spread of the virus.Against this backdrop, she said, “the Crusaders for Peace knowing the growing threat the virus has become, proposed a communication strategy and sent it to the Ministries of Health and Social Welfare and Internal Affairs. The strategy was immediately endorsed by them to ensure that we contribute to the fight and promote awareness on Ebola, especially in the four counties bordering Sierra Leone and Guinea.”She further disclosed that the strategy will focus on producing jingles, video and songs in the fifteen local languages that will be communicated in English, French and creole, capturing the deny symptoms, contact tracing and stigmatization in those bordering area.Liberia’s Cultural Ambassador added that her organization needs logistical support to ensure that its monitors move into villages and towns along the borders.During the mapping by her organization, she realized that the messages of preventing Ebola did not reach to some villages near the borders.“We are going into communities with messages and cell phones to inform the people that Ebola is real and can kill,” the Cultural Ambassador declared.The LCP also trained monitors in communication strategy, social mobilization, outreach, advocacy, interpersonal communications, and behavioral change, she said.Launching the synchronized cross border social mobilization, awareness and outreach on Ebola, her Hon. Associate Justice, Sie-A-Nyene Yuoh urged the LCP to remain vigorous in the fight to ensure that Liberia is declared Ebola free.In separate remarks, Grand Kru County Senator, Dr. Peter S. Coleman and Senator Edward B. The StatusNet Cloud Service also supports OStatus, a new standard that allows users on different social networks to follow each other. StatusNet accounts are currently available for free. The company will begin to offer additional paid services in April. Getting StartedTo get started, just head over to status.net, sign up for a free account. You can choose between a single user account (good for bloggers and brands), a private network for your company or a public community site. After that, you can customize your site with your own logo and colors. You can also set the character limit for status updates from your users.
