If you think back on what Tuscaloosa looked like a decade ago, you wouldn’t picture Midtown Village, the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater or half the apartments that sprung up around town.But Tuscaloosa is one of the top five fastest-growing counties in Alabama.Most people around Tuscaloosa aren’t sure how many people live in their own city. Some guessed 95,000 while others suggested as many as 225,000 people living in city limits.However, Viktoria Riiman, a socioeconomic analyst, said the city of Tuscaloosa has finally surpassed 100,000.But the city couldn’t have reached this milestone without help from the University of Alabama.“If you look at the increase in student enrollment and the increase in city population, it’s very close,” said Riiman.Since 2010, Tuscaloosa has been listed as one of the top five fastest-growing counties within the state of Alabama, and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down.It’s certainly easy to see the city’s growth when you drive around and notice all the construction, new restaurants and traffic.More than 1,500 people have made Tuscaloosa their home since 2016. In Tuscaloosa County, there are about 208,000 residents.Northport is also growing, with a population of about 25,000 residents.
